About this tool

A single combined DNS lookup gives investigators a quick overview of how a domain is configured before narrowing in on a specific record type such as MX or TXT, and it is often the fastest way to see whether a domain resolves at all.

Example inputs: example.comdigitpol.comhttps://news.example.org/story

What the result shows

A / AAAA
IPv4 and IPv6 addresses the domain resolves to, used to trace hosting.
NS
Authoritative nameservers delegated for the domain, which usually identify the DNS provider.
MX
Mail exchange hosts and preference values that show where mail for the domain is routed.
TXT
General-purpose text records, which can include SPF, domain verification strings or other policy values.
SOA
Zone administrative data such as the primary nameserver and serial number.
CAA / DS / DNSKEY
Certificate authority authorization and DNSSEC signing records, where published.

Investigation use cases

  • Getting a fast overview of a domain's configuration before a deeper investigation
  • Confirming a domain resolves at all before investing time in further checks
  • Comparing DNS configuration between a genuine domain and a suspected lookalike
  • Checking for DNSSEC signing (DS/DNSKEY) as part of a security review

Limitations

Results reflect a single resolver response at the time of query, not historical DNS, and different resolvers can occasionally return different answers because of caching or split-horizon configurations.

Frequently asked questions

Does this show historical DNS records?

No, only the current answer from public DNS resolvers at the time of the query; no historical DNS data is retained or shown.

Can I look up a raw IP address with this tool?

No, input must be a domain or URL; this tool does not perform reverse lookups on arbitrary IP addresses.

Why might a record type show no answer?

The domain may simply not publish that record type, or the query may have returned NXDOMAIN or an error, each shown separately in the result.

Is there a free tier?

Yes, the lookup is free within daily limits; a sealed PDF report is a paid or account feature.

Need evidence you can keep?

Every lookup produces a full public-source report sealed with a SHA-256 digest. Accounts keep a saved history and can download the DIGITPOL PDF report.
